But the Brazilian consulate in Buenos Aires is very stupid, and I admit so am I for not planning for their stupidity. I got an entry visa last December for my week long trip in order to fly back to the United States and to visit some family. It was only good for exactly the time that I was there, but I assumed (wrongly) that I would be able to extend that same visa and not have to repay the $100+ fee.<br /><br />I have since learned from a customs official when I eventually got to Rio that most US citizens are issued 5 year visas for multiple entries (you just can't stay longer than 90 days on any one visit), if you get the visa from the United States. If you get the visa from the consulate in Buenos Aires, then they give you only the exact time you're staying, and they are much, much more strict. They want your plane or bus tickets, exact addresses of everywhere you will stay in Brazil, phone numbers, etc. It also takes three days without ANY exceptions. It would take the American ambassador to Argentina calling the Brazilian ambassador to Argentina in order to get a visa sped up.<br /><br />So sorry about the rant, but it's ridiculous, and I'm mad that I'm missing out for a day. Anyway, I got a lot done today. I shopped for cheap sunglasses (which broke the first time I wore them in Rio), I filed a police report for my stolen cell phone, and received my credit card that I lost the week before.<br /><br />Tomorrow's the day!
